Apr. 15th, 2003 05:09 pmI wish someone would come out with a complete collection of Peanuts strips. I wonder how big that sucker would be. There are any number of Peanuts books, but a lot of them are probably out of print, and it would just be a nightmare trying to figure out which books covered which time periods. And you'd probably never be able to fill in all the gaps; I think some strips have never appeared in any books. And it would be really cool if the collection were indexed so you could look up, say, Petaluma or Jose Peterson or the April Fool and be able to find matching strips. Maybe they could even put it on CD-ROM and let you search for phrases that appear in the text of the strips. Wouldn't that be cool? I'd love to know how many times the word "blockhead" appeared in Peanuts.
I'm gonna have to start calling people blockheads. That's such a great thing to call someone. "You blockhead." What can you say to that?
Speaking of Peanuts, look at this. That's just about disgusting.

Date: 2003-04-15 02:12 pm (UTC)When I was a kid, one of my favorites was the one where Linus makes flashcards. The spelling is so poor that Charlie Brown says, "Awl this reeding is hard on my eyys". I've tried finding that book for years, but I don't know the title.

Date: 2003-04-15 02:23 pm (UTC)Was Shermy Charlie Brown's friend at camp? I remember one year Linus went to camp (without Charlie Brown) and he (Shermy?) was there again. He was telling Linus about the weird, round-headed kid he'd met the year before, who was always talking about his peculiar dog and his friend with the blanket. :)
Wait, Xmas special, though--that wouldn't compute if Shermy was the friend from camp. Was he just a kid from the neighborhood? It seems like I remember seeing the name Shermy in print. I was never into the TV specials as much as the comic strip. I liked them, but something just didn't feel quite right about them.
And I'm almost positive that I have the "awl this reeding" strip, but it's probably in one of the many Peanuts books I have packed up back in Mississippi. Up here I have stupid-ass Pynchon and whoever else on my bookshelves, but I forgot to bring the important stuff--the stuff that I actually would go back and consult!!!
