touching Easter thoughts
Apr. 11th, 2004 09:25 pmI'm about as far as you can get from being religious. Honestly I'm not sure what I believe as far as god or whatever. I'm not a real big fan of organized religion, to put it mildly. And of course I resent being preached to by people who are religious (not that all religious people want to preach to you; I'm not saying that at all). But some other people who bug the ever-loving shit out of me are the rabidly atheist--the assholes who seem to get such a rise out of telling everyone what they believe, or don't believe, or whatever. Like I give a shit, you know? I don't want anyone in my face about Atheism any more than I want people in my face about Christianity or Hari Krishnaism. I dunno. I've heard it said that Atheists can be the most fervently religious people around, and in a lot of cases it's true. I guess I just don't see the point of letting the idea of god rule your life if you don't even believe in it. Shut the fuck up, have a Dr. Pepper, and enjoy your goddamn Sunday, you know??? Let me figure it out on my own, and don't preach to me, Clyde.
I don't mean to offend anyone or to paint any group of people with the same brush, BTW. I have some avowed Christians and some avowed Atheists reading this, and obviously I got no beef with any o' y'all. Really, people who harp on any ideology too much bug me; it's just these certain ones that I happened to think about today. If you're really curious, I happened to click over to the FAQ at atheists.org, and that's what set me off. It's just so pissy, you know?

Whatever they hope for is their heaven.
Whatever they dread is their hell.
