OK, I'm bedded down for the night in Kingsport, TN--about 700 miles from New Haven and 500 from my destination of Starkville, MS. I ate at a Waffle House in Winchester, VA, a few hours ago, and all is well, except that it's fucking cold as feet.

Virginia is one big-ass, boring-to-drive-through state. It's about 330 miles the way I come through, and there's not a worthwhile thing in most of the state except a whole gang of Waffle Houses and cheap cigarettes.

Currently I'm freaking out because the fluorescent light over the mirror in this motel room makes it quite evident that I am totally fucking grey-headed. I swear, two more years and I'll be a complete greybeard, minus the beard.

When I was getting gas in Winchester, there was a towheaded woman wearing a beret at the pump next to me in a car with a "I think, therefore I vote Republican" bumper sticker, and I totally called her a honky motherfucker.

I'm glad to hear you've stopped, and you're resting. Motels suck big scissors; they are creepy. Every time I'm in one I can feel energetic stuff from the countless unwashed masses who have been in there before. Hotels are slightly better, but not much.

I am going to be an RV'er one day, yessir. Park in the Wal Mart lot and tell all those eepy night clerks sayonara. Hopefully one day they'll come up with an RV that runs on solar power, or something, though, because they swill gas.

woah, I totally know those areas.
I grew up in Paris, VA, then moved about a mile away to Mount Weather. I went to high school in Berryville. yeeech. Berryville sucks. So does Winchester. Well...it's not like Warrenton is exactly a hip town either. haha. but I still think Winchester & Berryville are worse. : )

How funny! My dad works near there. We used to go to the Paris Diner all the time. A hurricane tore that town all up. Well, it wasn't really a "town", I guess. Neither is Hume.
