Ack, I got called for jury duty! Y'all ever been? What's it like? Is it true that if you've done acid more than a few times, you don't have to serve? ;)
I sorta think it could be cool, and I want to do my civic duty, but I dread having to get all my crap together at work to be away for an indefinite period.
yap you're doomed. when i rechecked my friends list, this was the entry above yours... http://www.livejournal.com/community/zach_braff_fans/27287.html?mode=reply check the icon. it's a sign.
I served Jury Duty when we were in MA. It was my first time. No big deal, was kind of fun to be picked, though I've been in the pool before and not picked. They do not pay you worth crap for your time or travel compensation, though.
Hmmmm, looks like for the first week, my job pays me as usual, and I don't get anything extra. After that, I get $50/day, but my job doesn't have to pay me anymore. I hope I don't end up having to use personal/vacation time.
I've been called for jury duty twice, but in Florida. I was picked for a DUI case where the guy was counter-suing the bar for letting him leave drunk. I'm sure I got picked because I worked in a bar at the time. The second time, I talked the exceptions judge into letting me go for the day because of my profession. I was in live television at the time.
I found deciding a case to be surreal and not really pleasant.
I was called for Jury Doodie 3 times in FL and got released each time because my brother is a Homicide Detective. That's what happens to my mom and other brothers and sisters, as well. So, just say you're related to a cop when they ask. It would seem to be a sure fire way of getting out of doing it.
Hmmmmmm, I don't think I have any relatives who are cops. I guess I could just lie about it, huh? :) Or maybe I should do what George Carlin says: tell 'em, "You should definitely pick me for the jury because I can spot guilty people just like THAT."
I've gotten out of jury duty twice. First time was because I was going to a technical school and missing a day is like missing a week there. I just got out for the second time because I started seeing a psychiatrist. It was so fucking awesome, my doctor just wrote "patient has mental disorders" on their stupid paper and we mailed it back to them. They sent me a postcard saying they will resummon me in 18 months...like, what the fuck? Apparently in their world mental illnesses just go away after a while. Oh, well, I won't be living in this state anymore in a few months so they can shove it.
It's so weird, the entire time I lived in Los Angeles and Dallas I NEVER got summoned, but only in Arizona.
