I was thinking about seeing Running with Scissors tonight, but I've heard it's not very good. I loved the book, and I'll be fracked off if they've butchered it, so I should skip it, right?

LiveJournal comments is all jumble up lately.

I asked a couple of people whether my car would be safe in town this week with the Mississippi St. stickers on it. All I got was, "Welllllll . . ."

List of movies I've seen in the theater this year, mostly for my own reference:

Hostel
Brokeback Mountain
Walk the Line
Capote
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Tristram Shandy
The World's Fastest Indian
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrades
TransAmerica
Full Metal Jacket (yeah, it's old, but I still seen it on the big screen this year)
Heart of Gold
Thank You for Smoking
Match Point
V for Vendetta
The Notorious Bettie Page
Talladega Nights
Clerks II
Snakes on a Plane
Jackass 2
The Black Dahlia
Little Miss Sunshine
Borat

What's that, 22 movies? That's insane. Prior to this year, I doubt I'd seen 22 movies in the theater EVER. Well, maybe, but not many more.

Oh, shit. I just checked the listings, and Running with Scissors isn't even playing in town. Maybe I'll try Birmingham this weekend if I decide I do want to see it.

OK, enough disjointed odds and ends.

I haven't actually read the Running With Scissors book, aside from skimming it at the grocery store, which may be why the movie got the scrunchy face from me.

I mean I guess as a portrait of living with the mentally ill it was both humane and unflinching (and funny, in places) but mainly I left feeling kind of sad.

Hmmm. I think that's what I'm worried about--that the humor might not transfer to the screen. The book has an element of sadness, but it never ceases to be funny--which owes a lot to how it's written, of course. I can easily see that being lost, and the previews worried me.

Meh. I'm sure I'll go see it, though.
